Another weekend full of great shows to watch, especially the futuristic action film Outside the Wire and the much-anticipated Marvel series WandaVision!

Check out our mini-reviews and have a great weekend!

You can still have a longer list of the releases under the “This Friday” section on the homepage.

Outside the Wire

WHY

If you are a fan of action and futuristic wars, Outside the Wire is for you! Leaded by a top-notch Anthony Mackie (who is also the producer of the film), the film offers an interesting vision of the wars to come thanks to robot soldiers called “Gumps”. These will delight fans of mechas as well as Leo (Anthony Mackie’s character) who is an even more advanced and top secret version of these robots. The various action sequences will allow us to appreciate all their power and especially Leo’s speed and strength. The story remains classic but we can still follow it alongside a rather unfriendly character (played by Damson Idris) at least at the beginning. The evolution of the characters is interesting with some surprises. The human versus robot comparison is of course at the heart of the story and allows the storytellers to propose several points of view without going into advanced philosophical debates, it remains an action film and it is very effective for that!

WHAT

Set in the future, a drone pilot (Damson Idris) is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for an android officer (Anthony Mackie) tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do.

WandaVision

WHY

The wait is finally over with today’s release of WandaVision. It’s an understatement to say that this Marvel series for Disney+ was expected! It represents the first step of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and above all it reunites Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) with her love Vision (Paul Bettany) even though he died in Avengers: Infinity War. And it starts with a dive into the sitcoms of the 60’s and more precisely Bewitched. Everything has been thought of to make us relive this era, starting with the black and white look, the 4/3 aspect very TV cathodic but also in the actors’ acting and their stories such as how to organize a dinner with the boss and the neighbourhood fair. About the acting, the casting is excellent in this tribute to the old sitcoms. But we will soon realise that something is wrong with this idyllic and cliché vision of American life, such as the appearance of coloured elements or strange radio messages. As a bonus, we’ll even get some fake ads from that time with mentions of Stark Industries and Hydra. After these first two episodes we are really hyped and we can’t wait to know more about the story and especially who is behind this trick. See you next Friday!

WHAT

Marvel Studios presents “WandaVision,” a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) – two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives – begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.
