You can still have a longer list of the releases under the “This Friday” section on the homepage.

Brave New World

WHY

After a long wait, Brave New World is finally out and that expectation is rewarded in a very nice way! This adaptation of a cult book benefits from a large budget and a top notch cast. The story takes a little time to start but then it is difficult to stop. The various sets of New London and the score are really beautiful. The final episode is really intense.

WHAT

As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx (Harry Lloyd) and Lenina Crowne (Jessica Brown Findlay) have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage (Alden Ehrenreich), who escapes with them back to New London. John’s arrival in the New World soon threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony, leaving Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions. The three become entwined in a fraught relationship that awakens them to the dangers of their own conditioning.

Cursed

WHY

If you are a fan of Arthurian legends, magic and epic quest, then Cursed is for you. This reinterpretation by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler is refreshing and interesting. We enjoy discovering who are the many protagonists of the story. In terms of magic and fights, Cursed fulfills his contract perfectly. There are some weird choices of filmmaking which reduces the scope of the series, especially during the final. But this does not spoil in any way the pleasure to watch this fantasy series.

WHAT

Based on the upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

Intelligence

WHY

Get ready for one hell of a culture shock with Intelligence following the arrival of an NSA agent in England. David Schwimmer is perfect in his arrogant and ignorant character. The pilot episode is really successful and funny.

WHAT

An NSA agent teams up with a computer analyst to form a new cyber crimes unit in the UK’s Government Communications Headquarters.

The Alienist: Angel of Darkness

WHY

This new investigation of The Alienist is really exciting, terrifying and touching. The story is complex, involves all social strata of the society and above all avoids the trap of “good or bad” Manichaeism. The alchemy between the trio of actors works very well, we appreciate their complicity through several touching sequences. The reconstitution of New York at the end of the 19th century is really stunning and we discover with pleasure the different places of the city whether it is the rich districts or the slums.

WHAT

An unflinching, gripping, turn-of-the-century murder mystery that traverses both New York’s wealthy elite and the struggling underbelly of the city’s “Gilded Age,” The Alienist followed Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), a brilliant and obsessive “alienist” in the controversial new field of treating mental pathologies. In the first season, Dr. Kreizler was relentless in his pursuit of a never-before-seen ritualistic killer murdering young boys. He was joined by newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) and Sara Howard (Fanning), an ambitious secretary determined to become the city’s first female police detective.
